Want to know more about the AirVolution Kayak?

What makes it so good?

  • Rigidity – important for speed and tracking
  • Simple set up – inflate 2 chambers, clip on the seat, insert fin, go!
  • Huge weight capacity – great for heavier paddlers, taking kids and dogs
  • Tough as nails – can easily handle fishing and dogs, submerged rocks etc.

Who is the AirVolution Kayak For?

It’s ideal for heavier paddlers who want rigidity and speed, but also want stability.

It’s comfortable for paddlers up to about 6’2″, but could accommodate taller paddlers with bent legs.

At 17.7kg, you would need to be reasonably strong to carry it, although the bag with wheels helps with that.

Comfortable and Supportive

Advanced Elements have included a cushioned, high-back seat for your comfort.

It has multiple straps to adjust the angle of support.

Inflatable Foot Brace

There is also an inflatable foot brace included for lower back support.

Fast and straight on the water

The performance on the water of the AirVolution kayak is very impressive. The sleek, rigid hull, combined with the deep fin (removable for shallow water) allow the kayak to glide effortlessly through the water.

If you are lightweight, try putting in less pressure to let the kayak sit lower in the water – this will reduce the wind affect.

Roller Duffel Bag for Easy Transport

The Airvolution kayak comes with a bag about the size of a small suitcase and weighs only 17.7kg.

The bag has plenty of space for the pump and a side pocket for your paddle (sold separately).

Not only are there backpack straps on the bag, there are also wheels, so it’s easy to get it to and from the water.

Wide Open Cockpit

Although the AirVolution kayak is a sit-in kayak, it has a nice, wide-open cockpit.

This makes it very easy to get in and out of, and great for taking kids and dogs.

Note that you can NOT use a spray skirt with this kayak.

Suitable for Fishing

The Airvolution Kayak is very stable and extremely durable, making it excellent for fishing.

The wide open cockpit gives you easy access to your gear.

Suitable for Dogs

The stability really helps if you want to take your dog(s) kayaking.

The wide open cockpit gives them plenty of space.

The drop-stitch material is as tough as it gets – you don’t need to worry about claws.

Durable and Reliable

Drop-stitch is about as tough as it gets when it comes to inflatable kayaks.

It has to be tough, to withstand the high pressure.

If you are going to be encountering submerged objects, or taking a dog or doing some fishing, you don’t need to worry about scratches or punctures.

AirVolution Single / Double Action Hand Pump

The AirVolution kayak comes with a hand pump that has a double action for filling the kayak with air at low pressure, then can be switched over to single action to get to high pressure.

The kayak also comes with a 12V pump for quick inflation at low pressure, but you have to switch over to the hand pump to get the pressure above 1 PSI.

Set-up Instructions for the AirVolution Kayak

The set-up process is one of the simplest we have.

There are only 2 chambers to inflate and they use the same valve adapter.

You clip in the seat.

You slide in the fin.

The only thing to consider is that the chambers are high pressure – up to 12 PSI – so there is a bit more work with the pump than with our other low-pressure kayaks.

AirVolution Kayak FAQs

What type of conditions is the AirVolution Kayak suitable for?

The AirVolution Kayak is designed to be a day touring type boat, for flat or open water. The bow and stern have a rigid semi-frame that gives it a hard edge. This greatly improves the tracking over traditional inflatables. The AirVolution Kayak is fine for class 1 and 2 rivers, and durable enough for class 3, however it is really designed to paddle in a straight line, and therefore not recommended for rivers above class 3. When choosing a kayak for class 3 whitewater or greater, you really want a boat with a very rounded hull that will not grip on to the current, especially in eddys, like our Attack Whitewater Kayak. Unfortunately kayaks with very rounded hulls will not paddle very straight on flat water.

Is the Airvolution a sit-in or sit-on-top kayak? What type of paddling is it best for?

The Airvolution is a low-profile, open-cockpit/open-deck style, sit-inside kayak. The AirVolution is best suited for recreational and day touring use. Lakes, Bays, Inland Waters, Slow Moving Rivers (Class I-II), and Coastal Waters.

How much legroom is there? Can someone who is over six feet tall stretch their legs under the cockpit?

It really depends on how you like to paddle. Are you a traditional paddler that paddles with their knees bent, or do you want your legs straight out? Here’s a pic of a 6’2″ person’s legs in the single-person Airvolution. As you can see, he can sit with his legs straight out. In the second pic, you’ll see that a paddler can also place their feet flat on the floor of the kayak and bend their knees. So, a person taller than 6’2″ could paddle the kayak comfortably with their knees slightly bent but, if you are taller than 6’2” and want to paddle with your legs straight out, you’ll want to go with the Airvolution2. It should also be noted that this is a general rule of thumb as everyone’s legs and torso vary, so some people at 6’2″ or taller may have longer legs than others and want more room.

What are those bumps on the bottom of my kayak?

With drop-stitch material, the upper and lower panels of tarpaulin (the outer skin that you see) are held together with thousands of threads – this allows the bladders to be inflated to high pressure. In order to insert the valve and pressure relief valve into the drop-stitch material, some of these threads need to be cut away at that spot, creating a bump on the opposite side of these valves. Additionally, to create the V-hull shape at the boat’s entry, threads are also cut away to create this form. This should be of no concern as this is part of the construction process which we have been doing for many years.

The AdvancedFrames seem to have more storage space, is this true? If so, where do you store your gear?

The Airvolutions do not have a ton of storage space below deck but this was not the intent of this design. The Airvolutions (single and tandem) are designed to be Recreational/Day Touring kayaks meant for shorter trips in a day. So, while there are smaller compartments under the deck, both fore and aft, these spaces are really meant for a dry bag of small items that someone might take out with them for a day of paddling. So, the bulk of your gear storage would be on the deck of the kayak, fore and aft.

What is the folded and duffel bag size?

AE3029 Airvolution: Folded Size: 34″ X 19″ X 11″ / Duffel Size: 40″ X 18″ X 12″

Does everything fit in the duffel bag?

Yes! The duffel bag easily fits the kayak, pump, seat/s, and repair kit.
There’s also a front pocket for stowing the fin and there’s a side mesh pocket for carrying paddles.
Paddles sold separately.

Is a spray skirt available?

Not at this time, but it’s on the list!

I noticed the kayak only has 2-chambers, is that a safety concern?

Safety of course is our top priority and regulations/guidelines, as mandated from both the US Coast Guard and the National Marine Manufacture’s Association (NMMA) are always reviewed. While many of our kayaks are constructed of more than 2 main air chambers, this is not the case for all…The AdvancedFrame Sport or Ultralite are good examples of this. Additionally, all inflatable SUPs are only 1-chamber. Most all pack rafts are 1 chamber as well, and some popular collapsible kayaks have no air chambers at all. However, if you wanted to increase the chamber count to 3-4 for some reason you could easily add an additional air chamber under the deck with a buoyancy bag if you so desired.
