The Aqua Marina Halve is ludicrously lightweight, especially for a tandem kayak (note – can be paddled solo). It’s not a rocket and it’s too wide to paddle efficiently over long distance, but if you want something easy to set up for a bit of a muck around, it’s awesome.
×
Why THIS kayak?
Insanely lightweight tandem/solo kayak at only 8.8kg
Compact – the lightweight TPU material folds up quite small
High-pressure drop-stitch floor for rigidity
Super stable – great for kids, dogs, fishing, beginners
Very quick and easy to set up and pack away – removable floor – easy to wipe down
Can be paddled solo as well as tandem
Cushy seats – very comfortable
Who is this kayak NOT for?
I’ll be honest, it’s not a rocket. If you are going to be paddling for more than an hour or so, you might find it frustrating. It’s also very wide, so you have to lean over to get the paddle into the water. If you want a better performing sit-on-top tandem kayak, check out the StraitEdge2 Pro kayak.
Although this kayak is very wide across the beam and can therefore fit a wider bum, the max. capacity is only 180kg, so you could not have 2 heavy people in the kayak. If you need more capacity but you still want a sit-on-top style kayak, check out the StraitEdge2 Pro kayak.
If you need a LOT of space, like for 2 tall people and a large dog, you might want to consider the AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite, which is more spacious.
If you want to be able to put on a spray skirt to stay warm and dry, consider the AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite Kayak
If you are going to be doing a LOT of fishing and want rod holders, check out our fishing kayaks
If you are doing whitewater above class 2, the StraitEdge kayak can do up to class 3 rapids

Performance
Although there is a dual fin system and a drop-stitch floor, the Halve has a bit of waggle to it when you are paddling.
This is partly the hull design, which has a lot of rocker (not helpful for going straight) and partly the width (the narrower the kayak, the straighter it goes).
It’s quite wind affected due to the rocker shape – the bow and stern are WAY out of the water.
It’s good fun for an hour or so, but don’t expect to do long trips in the Halve.
Super stable

More About This Kayak
The Halve kayak is very stable, so taking kids is fine, as long as they fit.
It’s not a massive kayak for going tandem, but you should be able to make it work.
Yes, the Halve kayak would be an excellent tender for a boat.
It’s a wide-open design and very stable, with a high-pressure drop-stitch floor, so it’s easy to step into and out of.
Bear in mind that the capacity is only 180kg, so if you have two adults plus gear, you might go over that limit.
Also remember that it is a self-bailing sit-on-top, so if you are in open water in choppy conditions, you are probably going to get wet.
I would no go out for more than an hour or so in the Aqua Marina Halve kayak.
It is so wide, you can not paddle efficiently enough for longer trips.
The manufacturer does not give guidelines on the suitability for open water.
Technically, the Halve kayak has self-bailing ports, so it should be able to handle chop.
But my personal experience is that the performance is not good enough to handle the wind that can arise in open ocean, so I wouldn’t take it.
The Aqua Marina Halve has significant rocker and removable fins, so in theory it should be good for whitewater.
In practice, however, the kayak is very wide and therefore requires the paddler to lean over get any purchase on the water, so it’s not going to be THAT useful for whitewater.
There is also nowhere to attach thigh straps.
I would suggest it’s okay up to class 2 rapids.
Yes, the Halve is very stable and therefore suitable for beginners.
I would not suggest the Halve for a child, because it is actually way too big.
Yes, the Halve is stable, ultra lightweight and quite easy to set up, making it ideal for seniors.
The only frustration is with the paddling experience, it’s not as easy to paddle as I would like for seniors.
Yes, very.
You could even flop into and out of it.
If you are paddling solo, you can very tall and it won’t matter.
If there are two of you, however, you might struggle above 188cm (6’2″).
The maximum capacity is 180kgs according to Aqua Marina.
We have not tested the maximum individual paddler weight, but I would suggest around 100kg.
The Aqua Marina Halve is lightweight but extraordinarily strong. It is made with Packayak Technology – which makes it incredibly lightweight and ultra-compact without sacrificing rigidity.
Aqua Marina Halve is crafted with a new innovative TPU material – stronger, foldable, and easy to take on the go. Delicate, durable, and adorned with ECO-PRINT digital printing technology.
It’s a sit-on-top kayak.
The Aqua Marina Halve is a convertible kayak – this means it can be paddled by 1 or 2 people.
Deflated and packed dimensions are:
48cm x 65cm x 35cm
At 8.8 kg the Aqua Marina Halve is our lightest tandem kayak.
Most people can carry it down to the water by themselves.
The Aqua Marina Halve comes with an 11″ Foot Pump.
If you want to speed up the process (the foot pump is small and therefore slow), I recommend the Flextail Max Pump 2 Pro

Above expectations
These kayaks are simple to set up, sturdy, track straight and very easy to paddle along. I could not be happier with our choice and the great advice given prior to our purchase. I would highly recommend the kayak and the whole purchase experience.

Advancedframe Expedition Elite Kayak
The Advancedframe Expedition Elite Kayak is extremely well thought out and put together. Every aspect seems to have been catered for. My first experience on the water in the Expedition Elite was very memoriable and 6 hours of paddling seemed to pass in the blink of an eye... If storage and transport is a problem for you I would highly recommend the Advanceframe Expedition Elite Kayak and would highly recommend purchasing from oz inflatable kayaks as Emily was wonderful to deal with and was very knowledgeable and answered every question I threw at her and the service was second to none.

Super slick design and a pleasure to use
This kayak is an excellent design and makes kayaking very accessible for a newbie like me; it's beautiful to use on the water - super stable and comfortable to paddle - and easy to inflate once you know the process. It opens up a whole new range of activities for my camping holidays with kids and friends and can be packed into a boot or trailer as a foldable inflatable product... I could also easily fit my 13 yo and 10 yo into the kayak with me and enjoy it as a family...
