Insanely lightweight tandem/solo kayak at only 8.8kg
Compact – the lightweight TPU material folds up quite small
High-pressure drop-stitch floor for rigidity
Super stable – great for kids, dogs, fishing, beginners
Very quick and easy to set up and pack away – removable floor – easy to wipe down
Can be paddled solo as well as tandem
Cushy seats – very comfortable
I’ll be honest, it’s not a rocket. If you are going to be paddling for more than an hour or so, you might find it frustrating. It’s also very wide, so you have to lean over to get the paddle into the water. If you want a better performing sit-on-top tandem kayak, check out the StraitEdge2 Pro kayak.
Although this kayak is very wide across the beam and can therefore fit a wider bum, the max. capacity is only 180kg, so you could not have 2 heavy people in the kayak. If you need more capacity but you still want a sit-on-top style kayak, check out the StraitEdge2 Pro kayak.
If you need a LOT of space, like for 2 tall people and a large dog, you might want to consider the AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite, which is more spacious.
If you want to be able to put on a spray skirt to stay warm and dry, consider the AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite Kayak
If you are going to be doing a LOT of fishing and want rod holders, check out our fishing kayaks
If you are doing whitewater above class 2, the StraitEdge kayak can do up to class 3 rapids

Ultra Lightweight
Insanely lightweight at 8.2kg for solo and 8.8kg for tandem.
Compact
The lightweight TPU folds up super small into a lightweight, waterproof backpack.
High-pressure drop-stitch floor for rigidity
Ultra-lightweight and rigid TPU drop-stitch of 7cm.
Performance
Although there is a dual fin system and a drop-stitch floor, the Halve has a bit of waggle to it when you are paddling.
This is partly the hull design, which has a lot of rocker (not helpful for going straight) and partly the width (the narrower the kayak, the straighter it goes).
It’s quite wind affected due to the rocker shape – the bow and stern are WAY out of the water.
It’s good fun for an hour or so, but don’t expect to do long trips in the Halve.
Super stable
Super stable – great for kids, dogs, fishing, beginners.
Easy to Wipe Down
Very quick and easy to set up and pack away – removable floor – easy to wipe down and fold up.
Versatile
Can be paddled solo or tandem.
Self-bailing ports allow you to use the Halve kayak in mild whitewater and open ocean.
Comfortable
Very soft inflatable seats, although the straps are not amazing – make sure you get the right support BEFORE you leave the shore.
Padded foot brace for front paddler included.
Durable and Reliable
Aqua Marina Halve FAQs
Performance
Despite the drop-stitch floor, it’s not a rocket.
Being so wide and with so much rocker, I found it hard work to paddle.
And very wind affected.
It would be okay for a muck around for an hour or so with low wind, but don’t plan anything longer than that.
For tandem, the tracking is okay, but for solo it’s pretty dismal.
Even the dual fin system and the drop-stitch floor can’t save it.
The Halve kayak has so much rocker, the bow and sterns are WAY out of the water, acting like a sail in the wind.
Comfort
The seats on the Halve look really cheap and nasty, but they are surprisingly effective.
The inflatable sections are nice and soft and if you get the angle right, the seat back does give you decent support.
Make sure you take the time to get the straps perfect BEFORE you leave the shore – it’s very difficult to adjust whilst paddling.
What is the Aqua Marina Halve good for?
Yes, you can take a dog if you’re going solo, and a small to medium dog would still fit if you were going tandem.
The Halve kayak is very stable and durable, so you don’t need to worry about claws.
Yes, fishing from the Halve kayak is possible, because the kayak is so stable and so durable.
There are no rod holders included, but you could stick on the Adhesive Starport and then clip in the Railblaza Rod Holder.
Yes, the Halve kayak would be an excellent tender for a boat.
It’s a wide-open design and very stable, with a high-pressure drop-stitch floor, so it’s easy to step into and out of.
Bear in mind that the capacity is only 180kg, so if you have two adults plus gear, you might go over that limit.
Also remember that it is a self-bailing sit-on-top, so if you are in open water in choppy conditions, you are probably going to get wet.
I would no go out for more than an hour or so in the Aqua Marina Halve kayak.
It is so wide, you can not paddle efficiently enough for longer trips.
The manufacturer does not give guidelines on the suitability for open water.
Technically, the Halve kayak has self-bailing ports, so it should be able to handle chop.
But my personal experience is that the performance is not good enough to handle the wind that can arise in open ocean, so I wouldn’t take it.
The Aqua Marina Halve has significant rocker and removable fins, so in theory it should be good for whitewater.
In practice, however, the kayak is very wide and therefore requires the paddler to lean over get any purchase on the water, so it’s not going to be THAT useful for whitewater.
There is also nowhere to attach thigh straps.
I would suggest it’s okay up to class 2 rapids.
Who is the Aqua Marina Halve good for?
Yes, the Halve is very stable and therefore suitable for beginners.
Yes, the Halve is stable, ultra lightweight and quite easy to set up, making it ideal for seniors.
The only frustration is with the paddling experience, it’s not as easy to paddle as I would like for seniors.
I would not suggest the Halve for a child, because it is actually way too big.
Maybe go for something small and light, like the AdvancedFrame Ultralite Kayak instead.
Yes, very.
You could even flop into and out of it.
If you are paddling solo, you can very tall and it won’t matter.
If there are two of you, however, you might struggle above 188cm (6’2″).
The maximum capacity is 180kgs according to Aqua Marina.
We have not tested the maximum individual paddler weight, but I would suggest around 100kg.

How to use the Aqua Marina Halve
You can review the instruction manual here:
Aqua Marina Halve Instruction Manual
It should take you around 8 minutes, once you have got the hang of it.
It’s about 8 minutes, once you have got the hang of it.
You just take off the valve covers and set the valves to deflate. Then just walk away for a few minutes and it’s done.
You can use the deflate function of the pump if you want to, but I have never found this to be necessary.
Remove the fins and the seats.
Remove the drop-stitch floor.
Wipe the kayak and the floor dry.
Put the valves into the deflate position to allow the air to escape.
Fold up the kayak and the floor and put everything back in the bag.
The pack away takes about 9 minutes.
What to buy
• Aqua Marina Halve
• TPU Backpack
• TPU Kayak Seat x 2
• 11″ Foot Pump
• Kayak Fin x 2
• Foot Brace
You need to purchase a paddle and a life jacket at a minimum.
You can also purchase a paddle leash so you don’t lose your paddle!
We also recommend a dry bag for keeping your gear dry.
The Adventure Voyage paddle is my top recommendation to go with the Aqua Marina Halve Kayak.
But any of our collapsible paddles will be suitable.
Check out our range of featherable, collapsible kayak paddles.
The Aqua Marina Halve comes with an 11″ Foot Pump.
If you want to speed up the process (the foot pump is small and therefore slow), I recommend the Flextail Max Pump 2 Pro
