AirVolution Kayak FAQ

The AirVolution has a very satisfying cruising speed.

It’s one of our heavier kayaks, but it’s full drop-stitch, so the rigidity is exceptional. This rigidity helps it to glide across the water nicely.

It is, however, quite buoyant, so if you are out in strong winds, you may find that it is more wind affected than our other models.

Yes.

The hull shape encourages straight tracking and the fin (included) is a huge help.

All kayaks are wind affected to some degree.

You can generally predict how wind affected it’s going to be based on the ratio of kayak above the waterline to kayak below the waterline.

The AirVolution kayak is very buoyant and sits quite high in the water, compared to our other kayaks, so it gets a little more wind affected.

The seat (included) has a stiff, high back, which gives you excellent support, IF you get the angle right. Note – this video is for the AdvancedFrame seat, but the same principle applies for the AirVolution seat.

The base of the AirVolution seat has some padding, but not as much lift as I would like, considering the drop-stitch floor is quite firm.

The kayak comes with an inflatable foot brace.

It’s more a cushion that wedges into the gap at the front of the cockpit, it is not as good as the foot braces in our other kayaks, but if you just want something to push against, it will do the trick.

The seat has a high back and is adjustable, it provides good support.

Yes, the AirVolution is excellent for taking dogs.

The drop-stitch material is extremely tough and the cockpit is wide-open.

The wide flat base makes it extremely stable.

The only issue might be if you are big and your dog is big, there might not be enough space. But most people and most dogs will be fine.

Yes.

The wide flat hull means the kayak is very stable so you can focus on fishing and relaxing.

The drop-stitch material is extremely durable, giving you the confidence that neither fish nor fishing gear will cause a puncture.

Optional kayak anchor if the fish are biting and you want to stay where you are.

Optional accessory frame if you want to attach additional rod holders, an EPERB, a fish finder, go-pro etc.

***Although the Accessory Frame System can be used on the AirVolution kayak, it does not fit nicely over the cockpit, so it might be too far from reach to be very practical.

Yes.

The AirVolution kayak is excellent for taking kids, as long as they are not very big.

It’s super-stable, so the kids can have a nap and muck around without tipping it over.

A small child with an average sized adult works well, but if you or the child are very big, there might not be enough space in the cockpit for you both to be comfortable.

Absolutely, yes!

The AirVolution is made from high-pressure drop-stitch, which means you have something firm and stable to step on and off of.

There’s heaps of deck space for gear if you are using it to transport your stuff to and from shore.

It has pressure release valves on both chambers, so if you want to leave it inflated on deck for a short time, it is less likely to get damaged by heat-induced over-inflation.

**Caution – do not leave the kayak inflated on the deck of the boat long term. The heat and UV exposure will damage the kayak.

Up to a half day.

There is a huge amount of front AND rear deck space for loading up with gear, but if you are thinking of a multi-day expedition, the AdvancedFrame Expedition Elite kayak is less wind affected and more comfortable.

Not really…

The cockpit is oversized so you can not put a spray skirt on. This means any water that comes into the cockpit is staying in there with you! For open-ocean kayaks, we prefer you take something that can protect you from swamping waves.

The AirVolution is also a bit more wind affected than our other open ocean kayaks, and doesn’t flex with the swell so much (‘cos it’s so rigid), so you tend to get spray coming over from the bow slapping against the chop.

No.

The AirVolution kayak is fine for class 1 and 2 whitewater, however it is really designed to paddle in a straight line, and therefore not recommended for rivers above class 2.

Yes, but there are a few points to consider.

The key feature for beginners is stability and the AirVolution kayak is wonderfully stable, so no dramas there.

It’s easy to paddle, but a little more wind affected that our other kayaks, so not as easy to control.

It’s also a fairly heavy kayak at 17.7kg , which means it takes a bit more strength to get going than our lightweight kayaks.

And it’s quite long. This is what makes it go nice and straight, but it also means it takes a bit more technique to turn. Not difficult to learn, just something to consider.

In my experience, seniors are looking for a lightweight kayak, and the AirVolution kayak is NOT the lightest solo kayak we sell.

That’s not to say we haven’t had plenty of seniors loving it, but you would need to be confident about picking up a 17.7kg, 4m long kayak.

The other key features for seniors are stability and ease of getting in and out – the AirVolution kayak ticks both these boxes.

No, the AirVolution is not the first choice for a child paddling alone.

It’s quite heavy and long and takes some strength to get the momentum going and coordination to manouvre.

You would be better off checking out our lightweight kayaks if you were looking for something for your kid.

Yes!

You could pretty well fall in and fall out of the AirVolution kayak and you would be fine!

The kayak is very stable, the cockpit is wide-open and the sides are nice and firm. Easy peasy.

Depends what you call ‘really tall’…

The length of the cockpit is totally fixed, and the maximum recommended height is 6’4″ but this depends on your leg length and how you like to sit in the kayak.

The maximum capacity is 136kg / 300lbs.

This allows you to be a big person and still get good rigidity and performance.

It also allows you to load up with gear for multi-day expeditions.

Advanced Elements have been making inflatable kayaks for well over 20 years – you don’t have to worry about quality.

All kayaks are inflated at the factory and left for 24 hours to ensure there are no slow leaks.

The main hull material used is drop-stitch and it’s VERY tough.

It can handle dog claws, fish hooks, rocks and even oysters.

In the extremely rare case that you damage the hull, the kayak comes with a repair kit, so you can put on a patch.

The AirVolution is a sit-on-top kayak.

You can NOT put on a spray skirt because the coaming around the cockpit is too wide.

It is NOT self-bailing – any water that gets into the cockpit is staying in the cockpit (unless you get a bilge pump).

The AirVolution kayak is a solo kayak – this means it has seating for only 1 person.

Although it is spacious, you could NOT fit two adults in it.

Taking a kid with you is totally viable though.

Deflated and packed dimensions are:

86cm x 48cm x 28cm

The weight is 17.7kg and the kayak bag (included) comes with detachable backpack straps and wheels.

At 17.7kg, the AirVolution is one of our heavier solo kayaks.

You have to be reasonably strong to carry it down to the water by yourself.

It’s very stable, you can even stand up in it!

There is a detachable fin included with the kayak.

There is no rudder on the AirVolution kayak, and the Rudder Kit we sell is NOT compatible with this kayak.

Yes, the ePropulsion Vaquita can be used with the ratchet straps (included with the propeller).

Alas, no.

  • High Performance Drop-stitch Construction
  • Pressure Relief Valves for proper inflation
  • Bungee deck lacing and d-rings for securing gear
  • Soft Grip Carry Handles
  • Supportive High-back Adjustable Seat
  • Below Deck Storage Compartments for small items
  • Backpack Roller Duffel for easy transport

The kayak consists of two main chambers made of drop-stitch, an extremely tough and rigid high-pressure material.

The AirVolution Kayak is manufacted by Advanced Elements (an American company), in their factory in China

All kayaks are inflated and left overnight on the factory floor to ensure they are fully functional before shipping out.

But my strong recommendation is that you take a look at the setup video:

It’s anywhere from 5-10 minutes, depending what pressure you want. I only inflate to 3 PSI because I am fairly light. If you are heavier, you can go right up to 14 PSI.

You just take off the valve covers and set the valves to deflate. Walk away for a few minutes and it’s done.

For the AirVolution kayak I sometimes use the deflate function of the pump because the drop-stitch chambers can get a bit stiff.

The AirVolution is full drop-stitch, which means the only fabric is the seat.

This means you can hose it down and towel it off, then roll it up.

If the seat is wet, just dry that separately before adding to the bag.

• Dual-Stage Pump w/ Pressure Gauge
• Battery Operated Inflator for fast high-volume/low-pressure inflation. (Batteries not included)
• High pressure drop-Stitch floor
• Duffel bag with detachable shoulder straps
• High back lumbar seat
• Adjustable foot brace

You need to purchase a paddle and a life jacket as the minimum.

You can also purchase a paddle leash so you don’t lose your paddle!

We also recommend a dry-bag for keeping your gear dry.

Check out our offer for a package deal with a $49 discount, just underneath the Add to Cart button.

Any double bladed kayak paddle will work, but I would strongly suggest getting a LONG one, so you can easily get over the side tubes. Ours start at 230cm.

Check out our range of collapsible kayak paddles.

The AirVolution kayak comes with a hand pump that has a double action for filling the kayak with air at low pressure, then can be switched over to single action to get to high pressure.

It also comes with a battery-powered electric pump, but this pump is only good for getting the kayak started, it can not achieve any sort of pressure in the kayak.

You may wish to consider getting a full-pressure electric pump, you can check out this video to understand your options:

Above expectations

These kayaks are simple to set up, sturdy, track straight and very easy to paddle along. I could not be happier with our choice and the great advice given prior to our purchase. I would highly recommend the kayak and the whole purchase experience.

Advancedframe Expedition Elite Kayak

The Advancedframe Expedition Elite Kayak is extremely well thought out and put together. Every aspect seems to have been catered for. My first experience on the water in the Expedition Elite was very memoriable and 6 hours of paddling seemed to pass in the blink of an eye... If storage and transport is a problem for you I would highly recommend the Advanceframe Expedition Elite Kayak and would highly recommend purchasing from oz inflatable kayaks as Emily was wonderful to deal with and was very knowledgeable and answered every question I threw at her and the service was second to none.

Super slick design and a pleasure to use

This kayak is an excellent design and makes kayaking very accessible for a newbie like me; it's beautiful to use on the water - super stable and comfortable to paddle - and easy to inflate once you know the process. It opens up a whole new range of activities for my camping holidays with kids and friends and can be packed into a boot or trailer as a foldable inflatable product... I could also easily fit my 13 yo and 10 yo into the kayak with me and enjoy it as a family...
