StraitEdge Inflatable Kayak

StraitEdge Inflatable Kayak

This light and durable 1-person inflatable kayak is a crossover kayak (good for whitewater class 3, open ocean and flat water). The open sit-on-top style makes it ideal for use as a tender, for taking dogs / kids and for fishing (rod holders are included).

  • Crossover kayak – can take it out on open ocean, flat water or up to class 3 whitewater
  • Sit-on-top style is great for dogs, kids, fishing and for use as a tender
  • Rod holders included for fishing
  • Very stable – good for dogs, kids and beginners
  • Quick and easy set up – 5 minutes from in-the-bag to on-the-water
  • Lightweight and portable at only 15kg
  • Extremely durable materials
  • If you want to be able to stay warm and dry, a sit-in kayak with coaming for a spray skirt, like the AdvancedFrame Elite Kayak, would be a better choice.
  • If you are over 6’2″ or over 100kg, the StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak is a larger sit-on-top kayak with a drop-stitch floor for extra rigidity.
  • If you want better performance on the water and you don’t need rod holders, the AdvancedFrame Sport Elite kayak is faster and less wind-affected.

StraitEdge Inflatable Kayak FAQ

Sit-on-top kayaks are typically slower than sit-in kayaks.

The rigidity of the StraitEdge kayak is great compared to other sit-on-top inflatable kayaks on the market, but it’s not as fast as the AdvancedFrame Sport Elite kayak, for example, despite being a similar length and width.

It’s a nice, cruising experience, but not a rocket.

The StraitEdge kayak is a crossover kayak. This means it is designed to do a bit of whitewater (up to class 3) and flat water.

It does not have a fin (so it can pivot in whitewater), but it does have aluminium rib frames in the bow and stern to stop the waggle on flat water.

The tracking on flat water is okay, depending on your weight. If you are very lightweight (say, under 60kg), you might find that these ribs sit above the water and don’t help so much. But if you are a little heavier, you should get good tracking from the StraigtEdge kayak.

If you really want a kayak that tracks straight on flat water, consider our sit-in kayaks.

Yes, it does get a bit wind affected, depending on your weight.

All kayaks are wind affected to some degree.

You can generally predict how wind affected it’s going to be based on the ratio of kayak above the waterline to kayak below the waterline. The StraitEdge kayak sits fairly high in the water, especially if you are lightweight.

In terms of our solo kayaks, the StraitEdge kayak is in the middle – it’s more wind affected than the AdvancedFrame Kayak, but less wind affected than the AirVolution kayak.

Above expectations

These kayaks are simple to set up, sturdy, track straight and very easy to paddle along. I could not be happier with our choice and the great advice given prior to our purchase. I would highly recommend the kayak and the whole purchase experience.

Advancedframe Expedition Elite Kayak

The Advancedframe Expedition Elite Kayak is extremely well thought out and put together. Every aspect seems to have been catered for. My first experience on the water in the Expedition Elite was very memoriable and 6 hours of paddling seemed to pass in the blink of an eye... If storage and transport is a problem for you I would highly recommend the Advanceframe Expedition Elite Kayak and would highly recommend purchasing from oz inflatable kayaks as Emily was wonderful to deal with and was very knowledgeable and answered every question I threw at her and the service was second to none.
