If you want to be able to stay warm and dry, a sit-in kayak with coaming for a spray skirt, like the AdvancedFrame Elite Kayak, would be a better choice.
If you are over 6’2″ or over 100kg, the StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak is a larger sit-on-top kayak with a drop-stitch floor for extra rigidity.
If you want better performance on the water and you don’t need rod holders, the AdvancedFrame Sport Elite kayak is faster and less wind-affected.
Setting up the StraitEdge Inflatable Kayak takes about 5 minutes, once you get the hang of it.

“It took less than 5 minutes to unpack and inflate my Straight Edge Kayak. I found the kayak to be very stable getting into and out of, also the kayak was stable from the power, boat wash. Deflating and packing the kayak into the bag is really easy, quicker than my mate who had a hard shell, which he had to load onto his roof rack. I would highly recommend the kayak, the service was excellent and Emily was very helpful with all my questions.“

StraitEdge Inflatable Kayak FAQs
Performance
Sit-on-top kayaks are typically slower than sit-in kayaks.
The rigidity of the StraitEdge kayak is great compared to other sit-on-top inflatable kayaks on the market, but it’s not as fast as the AdvancedFrame Sport Elite kayak, for example, despite being a similar length and width.
It’s a nice, cruising experience, but not a rocket.
The StraitEdge kayak is a crossover kayak. This means it is designed to do a bit of whitewater (up to class 3) and flat water.
It does not have a fin (so it can pivot in whitewater), but it does have aluminium rib frames in the bow and stern to stop the waggle on flat water.
The tracking on flat water is okay, depending on your weight. If you are very lightweight (say, under 60kg), you might find that these ribs sit above the water and don’t help so much. But if you are a little heavier, you should get good tracking from the StraigtEdge kayak.
If you really want a kayak that tracks straight on flat water, consider our sit-in kayaks.
Yes, it does get a bit wind affected, depending on your weight.
All kayaks are wind affected to some degree.
You can generally predict how wind affected it’s going to be based on the ratio of kayak above the waterline to kayak below the waterline. The StraitEdge kayak sits fairly high in the water, especially if you are lightweight.
In terms of our solo kayaks, the StraitEdge kayak is in the middle – it’s more wind affected than the AdvancedFrame Kayak, but less wind affected than the AirVolution kayak.
Comfort
The seat (included) clips in high on the side tubes, so it gives you good lower back support.
Watch this video – you need to get the angle right.
You are sitting on a soft floor, which is nice under the bum.
The front thwart acts as a foot brace – you adjust the straps of the seat to get the right leg length for the thwart.
Note that if you need more than lower back support, our other kayaks have high-backed seats.
What is the StraitEdge Kayak good for?
Yes!
The Straitedge Kayak has some awesome features that make it ideal for taking dogs.
The sit-on-top style gives you plenty of open space for your dogs, so they are not cramped into a cockpit.
The PVC tarpaulin material on the floor and main chambers give you the confidence that your dog’s claws will not cause a puncture.
The wide flat hull means the kayak is very stable so you won’t all go over board if your dog gets excited and makes a sudden move (not that they ever do that …).
Yes!
The Straitedge Kayak comes with 2 rod holders attached to the front air-bag.
The wide flat hull means the kayak is very stable so you can focus on fishing and relaxing.
The sit-on-top style means you can swing your legs over the side to help reel in a big catch from any angle.
The PVC tarpaulin material is extremely durable, give you the confidence that neither fish nor fishing gear will cause a puncture.
There is plenty of space on board for gear, such as a tackle box, an esky, lunch etc
You can open the ports down the sides to allow the kayak to self bail if you get swamped whilst fishing.
Optional kayak anchor if the fish are biting and you want to stay where you are.
Optional accessory frame if you want to attach additional rod holders, an EPERB, a fish finder, go-pro etc.
You can even put on a propeller – the ePropulsion Vaquita.
Yes!
The StraitEdge kayak makes a good tender for a boat.
It’s a sit-on-top kayak, so you don’t have to get yourself in and out of a cockpit.
It’s suitable for almost all water types, including open ocean.
There’s heaps of space for gear if you are using it to transport your stuff to and from shore.
**Caution – do not leave the kayak inflated on the deck of the boat. The heat will cause the pressure to rise and you could damage the kayak.
I would suggest 1 hour to a half-day, but there’s no reason you couldn’t do a multi-day expedition in it.
There is not as much deck space for gear as some of our other kayaks, and the seat is not high-backed, but if you wanted a kayak that could handle some whitewater, it would be great for a multi-day river trip.
Yes.
The StraitEdge kayak is a self-bailing sit-on-top kayak.
This means there are ports in the hull that you can leave closed in calm water, to stay dry, or open up for whitewater or choppy open water.
When the ports are open, water that sloshes over the kayak can drain out, so you can never be swamped.
Who is the StraitEdge Kayak good for?
Yes, but it doesn’t track as straight as some of our other kayaks.
The key feature for beginners is stability and the StraitEdge kayak is so stable, you can sleep in it (but don’t …)
The aluminium rib frames will help you track straight on flat water, but our kayaks with fins are definitely easier to paddle straight.
It’s fairly lightweight and simple to set-up, which are not critical features for beginners, but certainly make the experience easier.
Yes, we sell the StraitEdge kayak to seniors quite often.
In my experience, seniors are looking for a lightweight kayak, and the StraitEdge kayak is not too bad at 15kg.
It’s going to up to you to decide whether that’s a weight you can lift by yourself. For some seniors this will be a doddle and for others, it will be a deal breaker.
The other key features for seniors are stability and ease of getting in and out – the StraitEdge kayak ticks both these boxes.
Above 6’2″ it’s possible, but hard to say with certainty.
You may need to loosen the seat straps all the way, so you are sitting further back in the kayak for your feet to comfortably reach the front air-bag.
This is not something I have tested with a very tall friend yet, but I have never had a customer return the StraitEdge because it was too short.
If you want to be sure, consider the StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak, which is HUGE.
The maximum capacity is 136kg / 300lbs.
If you are above 115kg you might struggle to maintain rigidity and I would recommend looking at the StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak, which has a high-pressure, rigid floor.
About the StraitEdge Kayak
Advanced Elements have been making inflatable kayaks for well over 20 years – you don’t have to worry about quality.
All kayaks are inflated at the factory and left for 24 hours to ensure there are no slow leaks.
The main material used is called PVC tarpaulin and it is super thick and tough.
It can handle dog claws, fish hooks, rocks and even oysters.
In the extremely rare case that you do get a puncture, the kayak comes with a repair kit, so you can put on a patch.
The StraitEdge kayak is a sit-on-top kayak, with self-bailing ports.
* note: the StraitEdge2 Pro Kayak is shown in the picture
If the water is calm, you can leave the ports closed and stay dry.
If the conditions are rough or you are doing whitewater, you can open the ports, allowing water that comes over the sides to draining out.
The downsides of sit-on-top kayaks is that they are often slower and more wind affected than sit-in kayaks, and you get wet.
The upsides of sit-on-top kayak is that they have heaps of space, you don’t feel enclosed, they can do a huge variety of water types.
People often think that sit-on-top kayaks are more stable than sit-in kayaks. The truth is that is really depends on the kayaks. All our solo kayaks are equally stable, except for the AirFusion EVO, which is much narrower and less stable.
At 15.4kg, the StraitEdge Kayak is reasonably lightweight.
Most people can carry it on their own and it doesn’t add a lot of weight to your vehicle.
I can carry it myself down to the water. I am 55kg and 5’4″ if that helps.
No, and the Rudder Kit we sell is NOT compatible with this kayak.
Yes, the ePropulsion Vaquita can be used with the ratchet straps (included with the propeller).
No.
The StraitEdge kayak is a sit-on-top style kayak, there is no cockpit to attach a spray skirt to.

How to use the StraitEdge Kayak
You can review the instruction manual here:
But my strong recommendation is that you take a look at the setup video:
The StraitEdge kayak is mostly PVC, which means you can use a towel to wipe off any water.
Fold it as per the folding instructions in the manual and it then goes back into the bag pretty easily.
It’s okay to store it a little bit wet for a day or so, but if you are going to be storing it for longer, make sure it’s completely dry.
What to buy
• Carrying Duffel Bag
• Repair Kit
• Folding Seat
• Owner’s Manual
• Rod Holders
• Double Action Hand Pump witḣ Gauge
You need to purchase a paddle and a life jacket as the minimum.
You can also purchase a paddle leash so you don’t lose your paddle!
We also recommend a dry-bag for keeping your gear dry.
Check out our Fishing Gear section if you want to do some kayak fishing.
Any double bladed kayak paddle will work, but I would strongly suggest getting a LONG one, so you can easily get over the side tubes. Ours start at 230cm.
*Note Double Action Hand Pump with Gauge is included.
I would strongly suggest you use our Double Action Hand Pump with Gauge – it has exactly the right adapters and is capable of inflating the drop-stitch floor to the maximum pressure.

Fantastic kayaks, and great service - very happy!
My husband and I are in our late 50’s, and were about to buy ourselves 2 hard shell kayaks, but I just had this niggling doubt about getting them on and off the roof racks or camper trailer, storing them if we left camp for awhile etc. I found these online, read tons of reviews, and bought them without ever having seen one in real life. Best thing ever! I wanted the option to use it fishing, so I bought the Straight Edge, and my husband got the Angler Pro because of the extremely comfy seat. They are easy to inflate, easy to pack up (they fit easily back into their bag), and it’s just so beautiful being out in nature. I recommend purchasing the pump with it, and a trolley is helpful if you are carrying other things too - we didn’t initially and then bought one anyway. I would definitely recommend these kayaks from ozinflatables.

Deflating and packing the kayak into the bag is really easy, quicker than my mate who had a hard shell, which he had to load onto his roof rack. Convenient for camping trips!
We have been considering getting kayaks we can take conveniently on camping trips to use both in sheltered and coastal waters. We like snorkeling so wanted boats suitable for just paddling and also ones we could climb off and on in the water. For both ease of transport and what we plan to do, inflatables seemed a good option. Emily was exceptionally helpful and once we made the decision to purchase, our StraitEdge Inflatable Kayak was on the way the next day.
Fantastic bit of gear!
Love my StraitEdge Angler Inflatable Fishing Kayak and hand pump. I got to tell you this kayak is a fantastic bit of gear, at the lake it was a 40K wind blowing and me and 2 puppies had no problem going for a lap around the lake about 1.8Ks. Thanks for the kayak.
Straiteegde
Oz Inflatables gave great service and prompt delivery. The Straitedge inflatable suits me perfectly. Easy to pump up and easy to deflate and fits in the basket on the roof rack. A little heavy to lift up there but will work on a system to make it easier.
Great Kayaks
Bought two Land Ahoy packages for Xmas and we have not been let down. The Kayaks are a breeze to set up, 5 mins max from taking out of the car to fully inflated and ready to go. They track well in the water and are really enjoyable and easy to use. What has been surprising is the ease of the deflation process and subsequent packing away. It took us sometime to make up our minds to purchase these Kayaks but at the end of the day we should have purchased much sooner. Ps: The advice prior to purchase and delivery time was excellent.
Less than four minutes and it was ready to go
Hi Emily, I took the Kayak out today for it's maiden voyage. It was only a quick paddle (down the road from where I live) at Colleges Crossing, but was enough to convince me I made the right choice getting this Kayak. My issue with hardshell kayaks is that I'm usually too unstable, but the straightedge just eliminates that problem completely making for a much more enjoyable experience. I also find this Kayak to be very easy to get in and out of. I was very surprised at how quick and easy it was to inflate, I think it took me less than four minutes and it was ready to go. Cheers John
