We are paddlers too!

What we consider to find the right kayak for you

Firstly we look at your height and weight. If you are very tall and/or very heavy, we will have some options for you. Secondly, we look at what kind of water you are paddling on and what you are looking to do while paddling.

For example, if you are going to be kayaking in open ocean, your kayak recommendation would need to include kayaks with inflatable coaming so you can use a spray skirt, or sit-on-top kayaks.

From there we consider how long your trips will be. If you are only going paddling for an hour or so, we are more likely to recommend a kayak that is very quick to set up. If you are going on a multi-day expedition, we may recommend a kayak that is comfortable, stable, fast and has a huge weight capacity for gear.

Combined with these factors is your physical ability. Some of our kayaks are quite heavy and would be difficult for a very small person to lift. Also, some of our kayaks are more supportive in the back than others, and some are easier to get in and out of.

Next, we look at your experience. If you are a beginner, your kayak recommendation is not going to include tippy kayaks. Conversely, if you have had quite a bit of paddling experience, we are going to recommend our fastest kayaks and not worry so much about stability.

Obviously we will consider if you want a solo or tandem. But sometimes, people are okay with letting me recommend, OR giving advice as to which is more suitable.

Lastly, we will need your name and email address so we are able to send you the kayak recommendation. If you could add your phone number, that would be great, because sometimesthe emails bounce and with only email, we'll have no way of letting you know. It’s also handy because sometimes people forget to answer a critical question and we can follow up before doing the kayak recommendation.

Thank you and happy paddling ~ Emily and the team.
