Love to fish? Love to go kayaking? Want a kayak that will do both really well, AND pack away into a bag? You might think that hooks, knives and fish wouldn’t go well with an inflatable kayak. That’s what I thought too, but Advanced Elements were up for the challenge and designed the StraitEdge Angler PRO as a custom inflatable fishing kayak. Not only is it durable, comfortable and stable as a fishing kayak, it also paddles straight and fast if you want to use it for regular kayaking. See below for why the StraitEdge Angler PRO inflatable kayak is an awesome fishing kayak.
Who is the Gone Fishing Kayak Package for?
Paddlers who need (or want) a fishing kayak and
- Want to stand up from time to time
- Need a lot of leg-room
- Need a lot of back support
- Want to mount gadgets on both front and rear
- Need a huge capacity (up to 180kg)
Here’s why this is the best inflatable fishing kayak on the market
Comfortable

The adjustable folding seat not only gives you excellent support for relaxing, it also lifts you up a bit so you don’t have your legs straight out in front of you.
Heaps of Space and Capacity

Want to take your esky? Got a large tackle box? Maybe bring the dog? The StraitEdge Angler PRO Inflatable Fishing Kayak has a massive 181kg capacity so you can load up with gear.
Stable

The wide, flat hull and rigid drop-stitch floor give you plenty of stability for relaxing and so you don’t fall out when you catch a big one.
Sit-on-top

You can open the ports to make this a self-bailing sit-on-top kayak if you are out in choppy conditions, or you want to swing your legs over the side to reel in a fish. If you want to stay dry in calm conditions, you can just close the ports.
Great to Paddle

Most fishing kayaks are designed for fishing, not for paddling. This kayak has a unique hull design, with aluminium ribs in the bow and stern. Combined with the deep tracking fin (included but optional), you track straight and go fast when you want to go kayaking, rather than fishing.
Durable

Portability

Want to explore some remote areas? That’s the beauty of this inflatable fishing kayak – you can pack it up into a bag!

FAQs
Performance
It’s not a rocket, like some of our other kayaks, but it’s reasonably fast.
Sit-on-top kayaks are typically slower than sit-in kayaks, and fishing kayaks are notorious for being wide and slow.
So compared to most sit-on-top fishing kayaks it’s fast!
With the fin on, yes, with the fin off, no.
It also depends on your weight. I am very lightweight (54kg), so the front rib doesn’t give me as much tracking support as it could. The kayak tends to waggle a bit when I’m paddling. It’s only a mild waggle, so it doesn’t bother me.
If you are over 80kg, the kayak is going to sit lower in the water and that front rib will help keep you on course.
Yes, it is a bit wind affected.
All kayaks are wind affected to some degree.
You can generally predict how wind affected it’s going to be based on the ratio of kayak above the waterline to kayak below the waterline.
Because it has such a huge capacity (180kg), with me (54kg) in it, the StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak sits quite high above the water, so it gets blown around a bit.
The heavier you are, the less of a problem this is going to be.
Comfort
Hands down, the MOST comfortable inflatable kayak in the world.
The seat is an adjustable aluminium folding frame seat.
This means your bum is lifted off the floor of the kayak – less tension on your hamstrings.
It also means your back is FULLY supported at whatever angle is comfortable for you.
The mesh of the seat means you don’t get all hot and sweaty as you are paddling.
You can move the position of the seat forwards or backwards to get your feet bracing against the front thwart, which supports your lower back.
The front thwart (air bag) acts as a foot brace. You simply move the position of the seat to where your feet meet the thwart. A lot of paddlers swear by foot pegs for encouraging good paddling technique and for supporting the lower back.
The StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak has excellent back support – the seat is an adjustable aluminium folding frame seat – total support at any angle.
The seats base raises you up off the floor so your bum is higher than your heels – this takes the pressure off the lower back.
What is the StraitEdge Angler Pro Kayak good for?
Yes!
The Straitedge Angler Pro Kayak has some awesome features that make it ideal for taking dogs.
This HUGE sit-on-top kayak gives you plenty of open space for your dogs, so they are not cramped into a cockpit.
The PVC tarpaulin material on the main chambers give you the confidence that your dog’s claws will not cause a puncture.
The wide flat hull means the kayak is very stable so you won’t all go over board if your dog gets excited and makes a sudden move (not that they ever do that …).
Yes! The StraitEdge Angler pro has been specifically DESIGNED for kayak fishing.
The StraitEdge Angler Pro Kayak comes with 2 Accessory Frame rails that allow you to attach rod holders and/or other devices with a one inch rail mount.
The wide flat hull means the kayak is very stable so you can focus on fishing and relaxing.
The sit-on-top style means you can swing your legs over the side to help reel in a big catch from any angle.
The PVC tarpaulin material is extremely durable, give you the confidence that neither fish nor fishing gear will cause a puncture.
The sides are reinforced for extra protection.
There is plenty of space on board for gear, such as a tackle box, an esky, lunch etc
You can open the ports down the sides to allow the kayak to self bail if you get swamped whilst fishing.
Optional kayak anchor if the fish are biting and you want to stay where you are.
The US fin box on the hull is compatible with the ePropulsion Vaquita propeller.
Yes, definitely.
The StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak makes an excellent tender for a boat.
It’s got the high-pressure drop-stitch floor, which gives you something firm and stable to step on and off of.
It’s a sit-on-top kayak, so you don’t have to get yourself in and out of a cockpit.
It’s suitable for almost all water types, including open ocean.
There’s heaps of space for gear if you are using it to transport your stuff to and from shore.
Note that at 20.4kg, it’s quite heavy, though, and because of the folding frame seat, it takes up a bit more space that our other kayaks.
**Caution – do not leave the kayak inflated on the deck of the boat. The heat will cause the pressure to rise and you could damage the kayak.
Anything from 1 hour to a multi-day expedition.
Although it is quite comfortable for a multi-day expedition and there is a lot of space for gear, it’s not as fast as the AdvancedFrame Expedition Elite kayak. But if you want to fish on the way, it’s still a better choice!
Yes.
The StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak is a self-bailing sit-on-top kayak.
This means there are ports in the hull that you can leave closed in calm water, to stay dry, or open up for whitewater or choppy open water.
When the ports are open, water that sloshes over the kayak can drain out, so you can never be swamped.
No.
It is certainly capable of mild whitewater (up to class 2), especially if you leave the fin off.
But generally speaking it is designed for flat or coastal water.
Who is the StraitEdge2 Angler Pro Kayak good for?
Absolutely, yes!
The key feature for beginners is stability and the StraitEdge Angler Pro is so stable, you can sleep in it (but don’t …)
When the fin is installed, it’s super-easy to paddle straight, no experience necessary.
The only thing to watch out for is that it is fairly heavy (20.4kg). It’s not critical for beginners to have a lightweight kayak, but it certainly make the experience easier.
It’s certainly stable enough and easy to paddle, but at 20.4kg you would have to be a very strong senior to carry it by yourself.
No, the StraitEdge Angler Pro is a big and heavy kayak and would be difficult for a child to paddle on their own.
I would suggest looking at our lightweight kayaks instead.
Yes, the Straitedge Angler Pro kayak is super-easy to get in and out of.
It is a sit-on-top kayak, so there is no cockpit to fold yourself into.
The drop-stitch floor becomes rigid when inflated, so you have something firm to push against.
It’s very stable, so you can flop in and roll out if you have to!
Yes.
I cannot emphasise just how BIG this kayak is.
If you need more leg room, simply move the seat back by adjusting the straps.
The maximum capacity is 180kg.
If you’re on the heavy side, just make sure you put the maximum pressure into the drop-stitch floor (6 PSI) to get the best rigidity possible.
About the StraitEdge Angler Pro Kayak
Advanced Elements have been making inflatable kayaks for well over 20 years – you don’t have to worry about quality.
All kayaks are inflated at the factory and left for 24 hours to ensure there are no slow leaks.
The main material used is called PVC tarpaulin and it is super thick and tough.
It can handle dog claws, fish hooks, rocks and even oysters.
In the extremely rare case that you do get a puncture, the kayak comes with a repair kit, so you can put on a patch.
The StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak is a sit-on-top kayak, with self-bailing ports.
* note: the StraitEdge2 Pro kayak is shows in the picture
If the water is calm, you can leave the ports closed and stay dry.
If the conditions are rough, you can open the ports, allowing water that comes over the sides to drain out.
The downsides of sit-on-top kayaks is that they are often slower and more wind affected than sit-in kayaks, and you get wet.
The upsides of sit-on-top kayak is that they have heaps of space, you don’t feel enclosed, they can do a huge variety of water types.
At 20.4kg, the StraitEdge Angler Pro Kayak is fairly heavy for a solo.
It paddles well, you just want to make sure you are able to lift that weight.
A detachable fin is included.
If you want to go straight in flat water, attach the fin.
If you want to paddle in shallow water, leave the fin off.
There is no rudder on the StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak, and the Rudder Kit we sell is NOT compatible with this kayak.
Note that the StraitEdge2 Pro kayak is easy to paddle, tracks well with the fin on and is not very wind affected, so you are not likely to need a rudder.
Yes, the StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak has a US Fin Box, so the ePropulsion Vaquita propeller can be clipped directly into the fin box.
No.
The StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak is a sit-on-top style kayak, there is no cockpit to attach a spray skirt to.

How to use the StraitEdge Angler Pro Kayak
You can review the instruction manual here:
StraitEdge Angler Pro Kayak Manual
But my strong recommendation is that you take a look at the setup video:
It’s about 8 minutes, 10 if you want to install the rails.
You just take off the valve covers and set the valves to deflate. Walk away for a few minutes and it’s done.
You can use the deflate function of the pump if you want to, but I have never found this to be necessary.
The StraitEdge Angler Pro kayak is mostly PVC, which means you can use a towel to wipe off any water.
Fold it as per the folding instructions in the manual and it then goes back into the bag pretty easily.
It’s okay to store it a little bit wet for a day or so, but if you are going to be storing it for longer, make sure it’s completely dry.
